The Captain's First Voyage: Building a Dream in 90 Days-Nat Garcia

Consistency. Consistency. Consistency

It's the one thing I've chased my whole life and never quite caught.

I'm the girl who wanted to build her dreams — and kept starting over instead of finishing.

Who am I? I'm the thirty-year-old woman ready to rebrand, restart, and rebuild for the final time. Tired of the excuses. Tired of wanting approval. Tired of thinking I needed all the right answers, and that I needed the perfect time to do anything. Tired of the girl who makes herself the insignificant one.

Hey There! Nat here!

I'm the one who grew up telling stories, making others laugh, singing, and loving the stage and all things creative! And singing happy birthday Jesus every Christmas at church because it was fun and it didn't require a lot of thinking to remember ha.

Aside from jokes, this blog post is about how I want to change my life in the next 90 days. I'm calling it "90 Days: No More Starting Over" — yeah, I know, real creative title, Nat.

But let's be real here — with the job market changing every day, and with me over here with a long list of food/retail jobs and not much else, it's time for the scared girl to become the woman she's always wanted to be. Growing one step at a time. Brick by brick. And lastly, stone by stone.

So, what does that look like exactly? How does Nat here go from 0.0 Nat to 0.5 Nat? Here's the game plan — simple yet effective.

First: one Instagram page — the work page. Being unemployed helps with this, and I have very kind, supportive parents.

This page has a purpose, run by me — shocker, I know. Virtual assistant work, UGC, and showcasing my growing creative skills and digital products. I'll be explaining each role in a later post, but for now, know that each one is tied to systems and creative expression — used to help creative women CEOs and growing brands.

Truthfully, I have no way of knowing if all this is going to work or not — the feeling is exciting, scary, doubtful, yet hopeful. All I know is I want to build a dream that grows my skills and allows me to be the creative I've always wanted to be. It's all I've ever wanted — to be a creative who creates for a living. Such an original idea, I know.

I know it seems like everyone wants to be a creator now, but this is something in my bones that I can't let fade or die. I'm getting older, and I want my voice to be heard, my art to mean something, to impact, to show others it's not too late to go after a dream — because when you think about it, 30 isn't too bad of a start line.

One thing I haven't mentioned yet — most of this content is being made ahead of time so it's ready to post within the first month. That doesn't mean the behind-the-scenes work stops. I'm still learning, still growing, still cold emailing — probably the hardest part of all this. Between everything I've picked up so far and where I'm actually at, I'd call myself a 0.5. A beginner and a half, ha.

Explaining what a growing brand means as a creative — it's very easy to want to do the creative tasks, i.e. the photo shoot, the making of the video, making the product, working on the graphic, etc. But a lot of times creatives hate to do the behind-the-scenes, practical, everyday tasks it takes to get the business — what I call the castle — off the ground. And that's where I come in.

So what does life actually look like for the captain — the business owner, the CEO?

So let me actually explain what that looks like as a VA — because "co-captain" sounds nice, but here's what it means in practice: it's the mopping-the-decks work — emailing clients, managing the inbox, charting the calendar — plus managing the content's treasure, from scheduling to photo and video editing, so the captain can stay focused on exploring instead of maintaining.

To say that's a lot is an understatement — that's where I want to help. I want to make sure the captain is enjoying the sea and exploring the world, doing the creative work that makes it fun and enjoyable, without all the admin and management weighing them down. And if the captain would rather keep the content editing to themselves, that's fine too — I'm just here as the co-captain, handling the rest so the sailing stays fun.

This first post is just the start — more encouragement, more raw and real lessons, and a little more explaining, ha. Somewhere in there, this girl becomes a woman, the dreams start to feel alive, awaken to a life lived well and creative, and maybe there are some beautiful clothes along the way.

So come sail with me.

For the next 90 days, I'm documenting what happens when I stop starting over and finally choose to build — learning, creating, failing, growing, and taking one step forward at a time. I don't know exactly where this ship will go.

But I know I'm ready to start sailing. Brick by brick. Stone by stone. Step by step. So hop aboard if that's your vibe, because we're headed on a journey that's hopefully lifelong. Thanks for reading, and feel free to comment and join the conversation — any feedback is appreciated and worth reading. I want to remind you though — this economy sucks. Don't let that define who you are, who you want to be, or what you want to create, because your goals and dreams deserve to be chased, and deserve to come true.

This is Nat, signing off. I hope to hear from you until then.

— Creatively yours, Nat Garcia
